What is Hennessy?
Hennessy is a brand of cognac, which is a variety of brandy. It’s made from white wine that has been distilled twice and stored in aged barrels. All cognac must come from Cognac, France and is made from specific varieties of wine.
Hennessy has a fruity, burnt wine flavor with some floral and citrus undertones.
Can You Use Make Jello Shots with Hennessy?
Yes, you can make jello shots with Hennessy. It does have a unique flavor that may not be as versatile with flavors as vodka or rum but in cases like these honey iced tea jello shots, I’d say Hennessy is the perfect option.

Ingredients
You’ll need just 7 ingredients to make these Hennessy jello shots.
- Unflavored gelatin – The flavor of this jello shot comes from the tea, honey, and juice, so we start with unflavored gelatin.
- Hennessy – The dark, fruity taste of Hennessy makes these jello shots stand out.
- Brewed tea – You can use your own tea or a bottle of your favorite iced tea.
- Orange juice – Lemon juice will work as well.
- Honey – Sweetens the Hennessy shots and helps the sugar rim stick.
- Sugar – For the sugar rim.
- Lemon slices – For garnish.
Jello Shot Essentials
Here are a few of our favorite tools for making any jello shots, including these easy honey jello shots.
- Condiment cups – Unless you have a large stash of shot glasses, you’ll want to make your jello shots in condiment cups. Most jello shots are made in 2 ounce condiment cups but if you want the shots to go further, you can use 1 ounce condiment cups instead.
- Sauce pan – You’ll want to use a decent, non-stick saucepan for preparing your Jello shots. We like this one.
- Baster – A baster is my secret to easily filling the Jello shot cups, without making a mess!
- Measuring cups – To ensure you’re adding the right amount of water and liquor, you’ll want a decent measuring cup as well.

How to Make Hennessy Jello Shots
Making these iced tea jello shots takes just a couple of easy steps and a few minutes to make. Just be sure to prepare them well in advance so they have plenty of time to chill.
- Add the sugar rim. Dip the jello shot cups into honey then into sugar to add the sugar rim.
- Make the jello mixture. Bring the water to a boil or microwave on high. Add the gelatin and let rest for a minute, until it “blooms”.
- Add the remaining ingredients. Whisk in the Hennessy, orange juice, honey, and brewed tea.
- Fill the cups. Fill each jello cup about 3/4 way. Place in the fridge for at least 4 hours.
- Enjoy. Garnish the honey iced tea jello shots with a lemon slice before serving, if desired.
Tips for Success
Here are a few tips for the best Hennessy jello shots.
- Use a baster to fill the jello cups. The easiest way I’ve found to make jello shots is to use a baster to suck up the mixture and transfer it to the cups. A ladle with a pourable edge also works well.
- Make these a day in advance. While jello shots should always chill for at least 4 hours, I always recommend making them a day ahead of time to ensure they set fully before serving.
- Double the recipe. The great thing about this jello shot recipe is that you can easily double it to make even more shots for a crowd.

How to Store Jello Shots
Hennessy jello shots will last in the fridge for up to 5 days. Note that the sugar rim may not last that long or become “wet” due to the moisture in the fridge. I do recommend adding the lids to the jello shots, as they store more easily and are more likely to stay fresh.
Do not freeze Hennessy jello shots.
