What You’ll Need

If you want to make the Margarita Jello Shots, be sure to get the following ingredients to get started:

  • Lime Jello – You can’t make the jello shots without the gelatin! If you don’t want to use the brand name, you can use the generic version, but make sure it’s lime flavor.
  • Water – You’ll need to combine your gelatin packet with the water for this recipe.
  • Tequila – You can’t have boozy gelatin shots without adding a bit of alcohol. In this case, you’ll use tequila.
  • Salt – It’s always good to have a bit of salt when you’re preparing margarita-flavored anything.
  • Limes – Don’t forget to garnish your shots with some fresh limes.
  • Condiment cupsYou can use 1oz or 2oz cups for these jello shots.

How to Make the Margarita Jello Shots

  • Boil the water. Bring a cup of water to a boil before adding the lime jello into it.
  • Prepare the jello. Mix the jello and water before adding in the tequila and mixing again.
  • Transfer to cups and refrigerate. Pour the liquid into convenient condiment cups and place them in the fridge for several hours until the jello becomes solid.
  • Decorate the rim. After it solidifies, you can add salt to the rims of each condiment cup to complete these simple shots.

FAQs & Tips for Success

  • Which brand of tequila do I need to use? The brand of tequila doesn’t matter. You can use your favorite kind in this recipe.
  • Which type of salt should I use? You can use traditional white table salt for the rims of the condiment cups.
  • Make sure to add the lime gelatin to boiling water. It won’t solidify the way it’s meant to if you don’t wait for the water to boil beforehand. It should only take a few minutes for your water to come to a boil.

Jello Shot Essentials

While making jello shots doesn’t require much at all, there are a few things that will make the process easier – especially if making them in large batches!

  • Condiment cups – Unless you have a large stash of shot glasses, you’ll want to make your jello shots in condiment cups. Most jello shots are made in 2 ounce condiment cups but if you want the shots to go further, you can use 1 ounce condiment cups instead.
  • Sauce pan – You’ll want to use a decent, non-stick saucepan for preparing your Jello shots. We like this one.
  • Baster – A baster is my secret to easily filling the Jello shot cups, without making a mess!
  • Measuring cups – To ensure you’re adding the right amount of water and liquor, you’ll want a decent measuring cup as well.

How to Store

Cover your Margarita Jello Shots with the condiment cup lids and place them in the fridge. You can store them in the refrigerator for up to five days before serving and enjoying them with family and friends. Do not freeze the jello shots because it can change their texture.
