Easy Halloween Pudding Shots

These Halloween pudding shots are a super fun adults-only dessert for your Halloween party. They are creamy, sweet, and just a little boozy – and topped with gummy worms for the ultimate creepy treat. These shots have a simple ingredient list and are great for making ahead of time.

Pudding shots are way easier than Jello shots and take way less time, but they’re still a sweet way to get a little tipsy. Since these ones are decorated with gummy worms, they’re great for Halloween.

Halloween pudding shots only take 10 minutes to put together, but they can chill in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them – so whether you’re planning ahead or having a last-minute soiree, pudding shots are a great recipe to have at your disposal.

Why You’ll Love These Dirt Pudding Shots

  • Great for making ahead of time! Pudding shots can hang out in the refrigerator until you’re ready to enjoy them – make them in the morning to save yourself stress leading up to your party!
  • A drink and a dessert rolled into one! Everyone loves chocolate, and everyone loves booze! These pudding shots are dessert and a drink at the same time – they pull double duty and make your life easier.
  • They’re nostalgic and super fun. If you grew up eating dirt desserts, these shots will be a blast from the past! Who doesn’t love Oreos and gummy worms? Made with vodka and Bailey’s, these boozy treats have a grown-up flair.

What is Dirt Pudding?

Dirt pudding (or dirt dessert) is a classic kids’ dessert that just needs a couple of ingredients. It’s usually made with a box of instant chocolate pudding mix that gets blended with Cool Whip to make it light and fluffy. The dessert is topped with ‘dirt’ (crushed Oreos) and gummy worms. Some recipes also include a step where you beat together cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar, and this mixture is also combined with the pudding. Dirt dessert can be made in individual cups or ramekins, but I’ve also seen it made in a casserole dish.

Recipe Ingredients

These Halloween pudding shots only have 7 ingredients and come together super fast!

  • Chocolate pudding – Make sure to buy instant chocolate pudding since this recipe doesn’t get heated.
  • Milk – Both whole milk and 2% will work for these pudding shots.
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream –  I love the sweet creaminess it contributes to the pudding.
  • Chocolate Vodka – Chill the alcohol before you use it – it’ll help the pudding set up.
  • Cool Whip – Gives the shots a lighter texture. It’s classic in a dirt dessert!
  • Gummy worms – I like regular gummy worms, but if you love sour candy, you could use sour gummy worms as well.
  • Crushed Oreos – Crushed Oreos are the “dirt” for the worms.
  • For serving3oz cups are the perfect size for these pudding shots.

How to Make Halloween Pudding Shots

You just need 10 minutes to make these Halloween pudding shots – but they can chill in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy.

  • Make the pudding. Whisk together the pudding mix, milk, vodka, and Bailey’s. Continue mixing until the mixture is thick and super creamy.
  • Add the Cool Whip. Fold in the cool whip with a rubber spatula until fully combined.
  • Transfer to cups. Transfer the pudding mixture into small plastic cups. Top them with crushed Oreos and as many gummy worms as your heart desires.
  • Serve them up! You can serve the shots right away or keep them in the refrigerator until it’s party time.

Tips for Making Pudding Shots

  • Make sure to buy instant pudding! I’ve made this mistake myself a few times – Cook ‘n Serve pudding will not set up without heat, so read the labels before you buy!
  • You can crush the Oreos in a food processor or blender, but you can also place them into a Ziploc bag and give them a couple of good thwacks with a heavy rolling pin, or crush them up the the bottom of a pint glass.

Halloween Pudding Shot Variations

  • Top your shots with any spooky gummies you’d like – spiders, eyeballs, ghosts, bugs – you name it!
  • Ghost-shaped marshmallows like Peeps would be a fun and different topping for the shots.
  • I tested these shots with Bailey’s and chocolate vodka, but there are so many different spirits that could work – Rumchata, Kahlua, dark rum, and vanilla vodka are a few I think would be delicious!

Serving Suggestions

These shots are perfect for any big Halloween bash, or enjoy them while watching a spooky movie with just a few friends! Topping them with crushed Oreos and gummy worms is great, but try out other toppings like Oreos filled with orange creme or a ghostly dollop of whipped cream with chocolate chips eyes.

Proper Storage

Halloween pudding shots are best when enjoyed within 24 hours. They can start to thin out, and the Oreos will get mushy.  If you’re not enjoying them immediately, refrigerate until serving, but I think they taste the best within 8 hours of making them.

You can freeze the pudding shots as well, but I would wait to add your toppings until they’re thawed and you’re ready to enjoy.
