The Best Banana Pudding Shots
If you love classic banana pudding, you’ll love these easy banana pudding shots! They’re made in hardly any time at all, with just 5 simple ingredients – many of which are the same ones used in the classic Southern dessert. Think creamy banana pudding, sweet Nilla wafers, and whipped cream.
Plus a splash of 99 bananas for a boozy twist because these are pudding SHOTS after all.
The best part? You can easily prepare them a day in advance, so you don’t even have to think about it the day of the party.
Why You’ll Love These Banana Cream Pudding Shots
Here are a few reasons why we love this banana pudding shot recipe.
- All the flavors of classic banana pudding. With instant banana pudding, whipped cream, and Nilla wafers, these pudding shots have all the flavors of the classic dessert.
- Simple and easy to prepare. With only a few ingredients these shots can be whipped up in a jiffy, with no mess and they look amazing as a party favor.
- Easy to get ready ahead of time. These banana cream pudding shots are easy to store if made ahead of time, so no same day hassle and mess.

What You’ll Need
These banana cream pie pudding shots are made with many of the same ingredients as the classic dessert.
- Whipped Topping – You can use Cool Whip or a store brand version for this. Better to thaw for an hour before starting your recipe.
- 99 Bananas – If you don’t have any on hand, any banana-flavored liquor or liqueur will work. In a pinch, regular vodka will work too, though you’ll miss some of the banana flavor.
- Milk – Whole milk will offer the creamiest texture to the pudding but you can use plant-based milk if needed.
- Banana Pudding – The go to ingredient for flavor for our banana pudding shots.
- Cherries – For a garnish; this will add that cute little touch everyone loves to eat first.
- Whipped Cream – Also used for garnishing: however you like, homemade or store bought in a can.
- Vanilla Wafer Cookies – The sweet vanilla cookies serve as the “crust” for our banana pudding shots.
- Condiment Cups – The common way to store the shot because they are wide and shallow but plastic shot glasses can also be an option.

How to Make Banana Cream Pie Pudding Shots
Here’s how to make these easy banana cream pudding shots in just a few steps.
- Combine the ingredients. Combine all ingredients, except the cookies, in a mixing bowl.
- Assemble the banana pudding shots. Crush two wafer cookies in each condiment cup, then top with the banana pudding mixture.
- Garnish and enjoy. Top with whipped cream and a cherry if desired, then enjoy.
- Cheers. Indulge with your friends or family.
Tips & Variations
These banana cream pie pudding shots are as easy as 1,2,3 to make and it’s hard to go wrong. Here are a few tips to ensure your success, as well as easy variations.
- Turn them into chocolate banana split pudding shots. Use chocolate pudding mix and add some chocolate syrup to garnish and add a little extra sweetness.
- Add a tropical twist. Use half the 99 Bananas and replace the other half with coconut rum for an extra tropical twist.
- Change up the cookies. Instead of crumbling vanilla wafers, use golden Oreo cookies or graham crackers for a slightly different flavor.
- Wait to add the garnishes. If you’re making these in advance, wait until just before serving to add the garnishes so the whipped cream doesn’t melt.
- Assemble like a parfait. For a bit of a twist on the presentation, layer the banana pudding and crushed wafer cookies to give it that parfait-like look. You can also layer the whipped cream but only if you’re serving soon.

Serving Suggestions
This banana pudding shot recipe is the perfect addition to any party and can even be served as an adults-only dessert at dinner.
I like to top my banana cream pudding shot with whipped cream and a cherry, as shown in the recipe. However, if you want to go for a more classic banana pudding presentation, you can top the whipped cream with thin slices of banana then sprinkle with finely crushed wafer cookies and/or stick a single wafer cookie into the whipped cream.
These do need to be served with a spoon. I like these mini wooden spoons but regular spoons work just fine too.
Can I Prepare These Banana Cream Pudding Shots In Advance?
Absolutely! These banana pudding shots are great for prepping a day or two in advance.
Assemble as directed but omit the whipped cream. Store in the fridge, covered with lids or plastic wrap, until ready to enjoy. If you add the plastic lids, you can stack them easily which I find helpful for storing them in the fridge.
How to Store Banana Pudding Shots
As noted above, you can store your banana cream pudding shots in the fridge for up to 3-5 days, as long as they are covered. We do recommend keeping them chilled until just ready to serve. Note that the longer they are stored, the softer the cookies will become.
Additionally, be sure to add the whipped cream and cherries right before serving if possible. The whipped cream is likely to melt and lose that great consistency if kept in the fridge.
