The Best Chocolate Pudding Shots
Looking for a fun, boozy treat for your next party? You can’t go wrong with these RumChata Pudding Shots. Smooth, creamy, and sweet, they’re a great alternative to jello shots and even easier to make. You need just 4 ingredients and there’s no cooking required. No boiling water, nada! So easy. Since the pudding sets much easier than jello, there’s no need to chill them for hours either.
To make these chocolate pudding shots more like dessert, I top them with some whipped cream and sprinkles. Served with a tiny spoon, these make a fun adults-only dessert at any party.
While they’re fun for the holidays, they also work great in the summer too. Just be sure to keep them refrigerated. (And if you’ll have them in a cool at the beach or outside in your yard, I recommend freezing them first.)

What You’ll Need
These rumchata pudding shots are made with just 4 ingredients and require no cooking. So easy!
- Chocolate pudding – Be sure to use instant chocolate pudding, since these pudding shots are not cooked.
- Milk – Both whole milk and 2% will work for these pudding shots.
- RumChata – It’s best to chill before using.
- Cool Whip – Helps create the creamy, whipped texture.
- Toppings – I love to top these with some whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
- For serving – 3oz cups are the perfect size for these and I serve them with a mini spoon as well.
Rumchata Pudding Shots Variations
Here are a few ways to switch up the flavor and texture of these chocolate pudding shots.
- Rumchata Cheesecake Pudding Shots. This is a very popular Rumchata pudding shot variation. All you need to do is use cheesecake pudding instead of chocolate.
- Vanilla Rumchata Pudding Shots. Use regular vanilla pudding instead of chocolate for a lighter vanilla flavor.
- Cinnamon Rumchata Pudding Shots. Add some cinnamon to the pudding for a warm flavor.
- Add some texture. Graham cracker crumbs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch crumbs make a great addition to the smooth, creamy pudding. I like to add a layer to the bottom.
- Try other liquor. Chocolate pudding shots can be made with pretty much any liquor. Kahlua is a popular choice, along with other chocolate liqueur, but rum and vodka work just fine too.

How to Make Chocolate Rumchata Pudding Shots
Quick and easy, these Rumchata pudding shots come together in just 10 minutes!
- Make the pudding. Whisk together the pudding mix, milk, and RumChata. Whisk for 2 minutes.
- Add the Cool Whip. Whisk in the Cool Whip.
- Transfer to cups. Transfer the pudding mixture into plastic cups. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles if serving immediately or cover and store in the fridge until serving.
Tips for Success
Here are a few tips for making these RumChata pudding shots.
- Use chilled ingredients. For best results, start with cold milk and chilled Rumchata. It helps ensure these pudding shots are ready to enjoy immediately.
- Skip the skim milk. While 2% milk is fine, I do not recommend skim milk as it tends to not thicken enough for these.
- Why are my pudding shots runny? The most common reason for runny pudding shots is using a high proof liquor, like 80 proof. That’s why most pudding shots are made with liquors like RumChata or Kahlua. Rumchata has just a 27.5 proof. But if they end up runny anyway, just add in more Cool Whip.
- Garnish just before serving. If you are making this Rumchata shots in advance, wait until just before serving to add the whipped cream and sprinkles.

How to Store Pudding Shots
These chocolate pudding shots are best when enjoyed within 24 hours, as the texture can thin out a bit. If you’re not enjoying them immediately, add the tops to the cups and refrigerate until serving.
Your Rumchata pudding shots can also be frozen for up to a month. Just be sure to add the whipped cream after they thaw.
