What is a Blue Hawaiian Cocktail?

A Frozen Blue Hawaiian has everything going for it. The flavor, the color, even the garnish! Hints of coconut milk blend perfectly with pineapple juice. A frozen blue Hawaiian is a bit like a pina colada, but with the addition of Blue Curaçao for a smooth sweetest few other liquors can provide.

What I really love about this frozen cocktail is the balance of flavors. It’s doesn’t taste to much like coconut or fruit. It’s just a beautifully balanced drink that just about everyone is going to enjoy.

Serve this drink at girls’ night or a dinner party if you’d like. It’s impressive and will WOW the crowd. But you can also make a Blue Hawaiian on a hot afternoon by the pool, or sitting outside on the deck. It’s a perfect cold slushie drink on a hot day.

Summer drinks for hot summer days! I could make these every weekend. Need more blue-themed treats? Try Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots or these Blue Raspberry Jello Shots, both sure to make everyone happy.

Ingredients for A Frozen Blue Hawaiian

This Blue Hawaiian Cocktail is quick to make in your blender. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White rum – Bacardi or a similar quality will work well in this recipe. You can replace it with Malibu rum if you want even more coconut flavor.
  • Blue Curaçao – Blue Curaçao can be purchased as a non-alcoholic syrup or as a liquor. This recipe uses liquor, but you can use syrup if you’d like.
  • Pineapple juice – Any grocery store variety will do.
  • Coconut milk or creme – Coconut cream will make a thick and creamy slushie, while milk will make a more traditional, icy slushie.
  • Ice
  • Pineapple Slices – Optional garnish
  • Cherries – Optional garnish

How to Make A Frozen Blue Hawaiian

Frozen drinks are great for get-togethers because they look impressive, but they’re so simple to make. Here’s how you whip together a Blue Hawaiian Frozen Cocktail.

  • Put the ingredients together. First, get out your blender and add your ingredients. Measure out the rum, Blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, and coconut milk.
  • Add ice and blend. Once a slushie texture has formed, pour it into a glass.
  • Garnish. Thread a pineapple slice and cherry onto a cocktail skewer. Garnish, and enjoy!

Tips for Making A Frozen Blue Hawaiian

Here are ways you can change up your Blue Hawaiian cocktail:

  • Limes, oranges, and lemon wheels all make attractive garnishes for this drink.
  • Freeze your glasses to keep your drink frozen longer. Just set them a bit and set them in the freezer about an hour before you plan to make your drink.
  • Serve these fresh while they’re still frozen and in slushie-form.

Can I Save My Drink for Later?

This drink is hard to save because it’s frozen. It will melt, even in the fridge.

But if you want, you can try to freeze your leftover cocktail. Pour the leftovers into a container with a lid and set it in the freezer. Let it thaw in the fridge just until it can be stirred with a spoon. Enjoy for the second time!

Can I Make Frozen Blue Hawaiians for a Crowd?

You can make as many of these frozen cocktails as your blender will hold. For most blenders, that’s 2-3 drinks. The good thing is, they’re quick to make, so you can whip up multiple batches in a hurry.

I recommend making just what you need, though, as these frozen drinks will melt.
