What You’ll Need

Assemble these ingredients before you begin. You’ll need:

  • Pineapple Jello – If you can’t find this specific Jello flavor, you can use any storebrand Pineapple gelatin box.
  • Water – You’ll need boiling water for this recipe.
  • Coconut Rum – I love Malibu Rum, but any coconut rum will work.
  • Cherries – Optional garnish, and can be fresh or maraschino.
  • Condiment cups – You can buy these at WalMart of DollarTree.

How to Make Tropical Jello Shots

Here’s how you make Pineapple Jello Shots with Malibu Rum:

  • Boil the water. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once it’s bubbling well, remove it from the heat.
  • Prepare the jello. Mix in the Jello packet and pour in 1 cup of coconut rum. Mix well.
  • Transfer to cups and refrigerate. Distribute the Jello mixture into condiment cups. Place in the fridge for at least 4 hours until the Jello sets.
  • Garnish. Once solid, place a cherry on each Jello shot. Cheers!

Tips for Making Tropical Jello Shots

This recipe is fairly fool-proof, but here are a few tips for you:

  • Make sure your water is boiling with lots of bubbles or your Jello mix won’t dissolve completely.
  • If you want to make these a bit less strong, you can use 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup coconut rum instead of a full cup of alcohol.
  • To stop your Jello from sticking to your containers, spray the condiment cups very lightly with cooking spray. Use a paper towel to wipe out any excess and spread it thinly around the cups.

What’s the best coconut rum?

Everyone has their favorites, and mine is Malibu. The original classic, Malibu Rum is smooth and flavorful. But I will admit there are other good coconut rums on the market.

Bacardi makes an acceptable mid-range coconut rum, but you’ll find plenty of other delicious varieties at your local store. Try Kōloa Kaua’i, Sugar Island, or Shipwreck Coconut Rum; each has their own unique flavor and sweetness.

How to Store Pineapple Rum Jello Shots

Jello shots in general are easy to store. Just keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days. If you leave them out too long, they’ll start to melt and separate, so if you have leftovers after your party, get them in the fridge right away.

Can This Be Made In Advance

Yes! You can make Pineapple Rum Jello Shots in advance. Just put them in the fridge and allow them to sit for up to 3 days before your party. I suggest you leave the garnish off the jello shots until you’re ready to serve them.

What Can I Garnish These With?

You can top these tropical pineapple jello shots with all kinds of yummy things. A squirt of whipped cream is always a hit. Here are some other suggestions:

  • Pineapple chunks
  • Sour gummy worms
  • Small lime wedge
  • Gummy bears
  • Garnishing umbrellas
  • Slice of strawberry
