Easy Gummy Bear Jello Shots Recipe

Escape back to those fun childhood years, with a boozy touch, with these jello shots with gummy bears. They’re fun, playful, and sure to make your guests smile.

The best part is, all you need is three ingredients – liquor, jello, and gummy bears. I used vodka and lemon jello for this batch but you can play around with other types of liquor and flavors of jello too. You could even use other types of gummies, not just gummy bears.

Why You’ll Love These Jello Shots with Gummy Bears

  • Playful Presentation:  Putting gummy bears adds a playful element to your jello shots, making them visually appealing and entertaining.
  • Burst of Flavor:  Gummy bears mix a burst of fruity flavor into each jello shot, creating a tasty experience.
  • Easy to Make in Advance:  Make these jello shots with gummy bears in advance, allowing for more time to enjoy and less time in the kitchen.

Recipe Ingredients

Gather these simple yet flavorful ingredients to bring your gummy bears jello shots recipe to life and make sure to follow the alcohol-to-water ratio below to ensure a perfect consistency.

  • Vodka:  The quality of the vodka will impact the flavor of these jello shots, so I don’t recommend going for the cheapest bottle. I tend to stick with a mid-shelf variety, such as Grey Goose.
  • Water
  • Jello: Feel free to get creative here, you can use an array of colors to make your shots a rainbow delight. Just be sure to use light colors so you can see the gummy bears at the bottom. I used lemon and the light yellow color worked perfectly.
  • Gummy bears: The star of these jello shots! Use any flavor or color of gummy bears you’d like.

Jello Shot Essentials

  • Condiment cups – Unless you have a large stash of shot glasses, you’ll want to make your jello shots in condiment cups. Most jello shots are made in 2 ounce condiment cups but if you want the shots to go further, you can use 1 ounce condiment cups instead.
  • Sauce pan – You’ll want to use a decent, non-stick saucepan for preparing your jello shots. We like this one.
  • Baster – A baster is my secret to easily filling the jello shot cups, without making a mess!
  • Measuring cups – To ensure you’re adding the right amount of water and liquor, you’ll want a decent measuring cup as well.

How to Make Jello Shots with Gummy Bears

Here’s an overview of how to make these easy gummy bear jello shots. It’s a quick and easy process – just be sure to leave a few hours for them to chill!

  • Prepare the Jello Mixture: Boil the water and mix in your light-colored jello. Stir it until the jello is completely dissolved.
  • Combine and Set:  Place a few soaked gummy bears in each of your condiment cups. Pour the jello mixture over the gummy bears. Refrigerate the shots until you’re ready to serve.

Gummy Bear Jello Shots Variations

Here are a few ways to customize these jello shots to make them your own.

  • Use your favorite liquor. You can replace the vodka with flavored vodka, white rum, coconut rum, or any other clear liquor. If you use a darker liquor, such as tequila or dark rum, it may change the color of the jello and make it more difficult to see the gummy bears.
  • Use other jello shots. I opted to use lemon as the yellow color makes it easy to see the gummy bears. However, you can use any jello flavor you like, just keeping in mind that darker colors will obscure the gummy bears on the bottom. The Starburst Jello collection has several light colors that would be perfect.
  • Use other gummy candy. Gummy bears are a classic but feel free to grab any small gummy candy that you like for this recipe. Gummy worms would work or any shapes of gummy bears.
  • Soak the gummy bears. If you want to add an extra kick to your jello shots, soak the gummy bears in a bowl of vodka for a few hours or overnight.

Tips for Making Jello Shots

Here are a few tips and variations for making this gummy bears jello shots recipe.

  • Chill time. Jello shots do need to chill for at least 3-4 hours to fully set before serving. Overnight is best, so these are perfect for making a day in advance.
  • Keep chilled until serving. Keep the jello shots refrigerated until just before serving. If you have to take your gummy bear shots to a party, transport them in a cooler or insulated bag with ice packs to so they stay chilled.
  • Be sure to keep the alcohol-jello ratio consistent with all variations. If you opt for any of the variations listed above, just make sure to keep the ratio of alcohol to jello consistent. Otherwise, you’ll end up with shots that don’t fully set.
  • Serve in LED shot glasses. For a fun serving twist, make your gummy bear jello shots in LED shot glasses. They change colors, which is especially fun at a party!

How to Store Gummy Bear Jello Shots

These jello shots can be stored in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. They may stay fresh longer but usually after 2 to 3 days, the colors from the gummy bears start to bleed out. They’ll still taste great, the appearance just might not be so pretty!

Once they’ve set, you can add the condiment cup lids and stack them for easy storage. I like to use a baking sheet or cake pan to easily transport them to and from the fridge.
