Reese’s Peanut Butter Martini

If this is your first time trying a Peanut Butter Martini, you’re in for a real treat. This Skrewball martini is made of peanut butter whiskey, Irish cream, and all the best parts of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Peanut butter, chocolate milk, and Reeses Pieces blend together to make a martini that tastes just like a peanut butter cup (but one that brings the party, if you know what I mean).

What You’ll Need

Here’s what you’ll need to make the absolute best Peanut Butter Skrewball Martini:

  • 2 Ounce Irish Cream – there are others out there, but I think sticking with the classic Baileys Irish Cream gives you the smoothest drink.
  • 2 Ounces Peanut Butter Whiskey – again, there are other versions of peanut butter whiskey, but I think Skrewball is the smoothest on the market with the richest flavor.
  • 2 Ounces Chocolate Milk
  • Reese’s Pieces – you can use these whole or crushed up.
  • Peanut Butter – for rimming the glasses
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – these will be used as a garnish. You can use full-sized or minis for this.
  • Ice Cubes

How to Make a Reese’s Peanut Butter Martini

This Reese’s martini needs just a little effort, but it’s a drink that the crowd will ‘Oooo’ and ‘Ahhh’ over, so it’s absolutely worth it! Here’s how to make it:

  • Coat the rim of a martini glass with peanut butter. You can place some peanut butter on a plate or in a shallow bowl and spread it around. Then just dip your glass into the peanut butter. You can also spread it on using a clean paper towel if you’d like.
  • Place the Reese’s Pieces on the martini glass using the peanut butter as glue. You can crush the Reese’s Pieces (in a bag with a rolling pin or in a food processor), or you can just stick them whole to the outside. I prefer crushing them.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Then, add the Irish cream, peanut butter whiskey & chocolate milk, pouring slowly over the ice so everything gets nice and cold. Give it a few good shakes.
  • Pour into the martini glass, using the strainer to keep the ice cubes out of the drink.
  • Garnish with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. You can cut a small triangular chunk out of the side of a full-sized cup so they’ll fit on your drink the way an orange or lime wheel would. Or, you can place 3-4 mini cups on a cocktail skewer and set in the drink.
  • Enjoy!

Tips for Making a Successful Reese’s Martini

Here are a few ways you can switch up the recipe, and some helpful tips for making a successful martini.

  • Make sure you use nice big ice cubes. You want the ice to help make your drink nice and cold, but you don’t want them to melt too much when you’re shaking or your drink will be watered down.
  • Instead of peanut butter, you can also rim your glasses with chocolate syrup.
  • If you don’t have Reese’s Pieces, you can also rim your glasses with rock sugar.
  • These drinks are best made to order, but you can make the mix ahead if necessary. Keep it in the fridge and give it a good stir or re-shake before serving.

Serving Suggestions

We love peanut butter candy to garnish this drink. But if you’d rather, you can use some of these suggestions instead:

  • Chocolate syrup
  • Hot fudge (served cold)
  • Crushes Skor bars
  • Shaved chocolate
  • Crushed Butterfinger bars
  • Crushed Nestle Crunch bars
  • Other candy bars crushed up
  • Crushed Oreos or other cookies

How to Store

You can store your leftover peanut butter martinis in the fridge. They should stay good for about 2 days. However, I recommend pouring your martini into a clean glass (without the garnish) before storing it.

Can I Make Peanut Butter Martinis In Advance?

Yes, you can make the mix of whiskey, Irish cream, and chocolate milk in advance, but you’ll want to give it a good shake before serving. Make it a few hours in advance of serving, and store it covered in the fridge. If you want to make a large batch, you can multiply the ingredients, place it in a large pitcher and stir it well. Before serving in martini glasses, pour a serving over ice and give it a good shake. Then serve as directed.

Can I Use Vodka Instead of Whiskey for This Recipe?

There are recipes that use vodka instead of whiskey for a peanut butter martini. However, for this recipe, the vodka may curdle the Irish cream. If you plan to substitute Vodka for the whiskey, make sure the vodka and your Irish cream are very cold, and don’t let the drink sit out long.
